The story of technology is always in a continuous process. Every era has witnessed various innovations that changed human life where the roots of technology are in the invention of the wheel. From the very beginning, technology has aimed a new lifestyle centred on connectivity and convenience for mankind. While it brings many benefits, it also requires responsibility and balance. As we look toward the future, embracing technology wisely will be key to building a more connected, innovative, and humane world. The late 20th century set a new milestone with the introduction of personal computers and mobile phones, followed by the digital revolution of the 21st century. While gadgets provide numerous educational and social benefits, excessive and uncontrolled use has led to increasing concerns regarding gadget dependence and its potential psychosocial consequences. One such consequence is social disengagement, characterized by less face-to-face interaction, withdrawal from social activities and weakened interpersonal relationships. The present paper aims to review and synthesize existing research evidence on the relationship between gadget dependence and social disengagement among adolescents. The present study adopts a descriptive and systematic review–based research methodology using secondary data sources. Relevant literature was identified from peer-reviewed journals, books, research reports, theses, conference proceedings and reputable online databases such as Google Scholar, ERIC, JSTOR, SagePub and ResearchGate. The selected literature was screened, categorized, and analysed thematically to identify major patterns, trends and relationships between gadget dependence and social disengagement among adolescents. Content analysis technique was used to synthesize findings and draw interpretations. The paper highlights the need for awareness among parents, teachers and policymakers regarding balanced digital usage and the promotion of healthy social interaction.
